  1. Except that, if I read that correctly, they really mean `phonemes', don't they? Also, I don't buy the idea that because there are many ways of saying something like `stick' in various Indo-European languages, that's more likely to die out soon. After all they stress that `four' is odd but it hasn't. I wouldn't mind another linguist's or philologist's view on this.
